Hi there! This site is a personal project that consolidates my deepening digital footprint, thoughts on books, etcetera writings, and more. I’m so happy that you’ve wandered here. 🙂 On this site you will find my book reviews, zines, and musings as a chaotic academic.
My relationship with books is best reflected whenever my platonic life partner finds leaves and flowers in her books and thinks “That’s a piece of Mailé.” I often read with pen in hand and I believe there’s no greater joy than reading outside in the sunshine.
Aside from reading for pleasure, I have a BFA in theatre and an MA in Comparative Literature at SOAS University of London. Academically, I love reading and writing about queer Korean literature, fan culture, and transracial adoptee narratives. These days I’m really into Appalachian studies and thinking critically about my roots.
I also like to consider myself a Bananagrams fanatic and conversation card game connoisseur. I’m a double Capricorn and INTJ-turned-ENFJ.
For more, you can find me on twitter @mileynwen.
(Mailé is pronounced like “Miley” and Nguyen is pronounced like “(N)When”)
Naengmyeon (냉면) is a Korean-style cold noodle dish made of buckwheat noodles. When I lived in Korea, I had a newsletter that I would send to my friends and family titled Only Naengmyeon because it’s my favorite Korean food. I prefer the spicier bibimnaengmyeon to mulnaengmyeon, but I would love to hear about your favorite noodle dish.
